Standing Ovations

The Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim Receive Standing Ovations in Paris

At their concert on June 29 as part of the second Boulez Biennale, the Staatskapelle Berlin, their chief conductor Daniel Barenboim, and soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter of the Philharmonie de Paris were celebrated with standing ovations. Pierre Boulez “Initiale” (with the brass instruments of the Staatskapelle Berlin) and “Mémoriale" (with Claudia Stein as solo flutist) were flanked by Ludwig van Beethoven's 5th Symphony and his violin concerto featuring Anne-Sophie Mutter… on her birthday!

The end-of-season Paris guest performances were completed June 30 and July 1 with two more concerts: The program included Beethoven's symphonies No. 2 and No. 3 (June 30) and the last three symphonies by Mozart (July 1).

Due to COVID-19, the Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim had to postpone both the Paris tour with the Beethoven cycle (planned for November 2020) and the guest performance at the Boulez Biennale from January 2021. The Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Staatskapelle Berlin are very pleased that three concerts in the French capital have been rescheduled - under high security precautions and careful implementation of hygiene plans - and that they will also have a chance to say goodbye to their long-term partner Laurent Bayle, Managing Director of the Philharmonie de Paris, who leaves the house after this season.

In Berlin, the Staatskapelle Berlin is seen again on July 3rd with Puccini's LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST under the direction of Antonio Pappano. The 2021/22 season at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden starts at the end of August, including with revivals of Beethoven's FIDELIO, Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Verdi's FALSTAFF, the audience premiere of Mozart's LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, the first subscription concert with Martha Argerich as soloist, STAATSOPER FOR ALL, as well as the season opening premiere on October 3rd with Mozart's COSÌ FAN TUTTE by Vincent Huguet and conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
