The Staatskapelle Berlin concludes their European Tour

The Staatskapelle Berlin completed their three-week European tour of the Staatskapelle Berlin, under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, on Barenboim’s birthday with a concert in the Tonhalle Zurich.

The concert in the Tonhalle Zurich, on Daniel Barenboim's birthday, included Schubert's Symphony No. 8 ("Unfinished") and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 ("Eroica"), and marked the end of their three-week European tour.

A total of twelve sold-out concerts, which were celebrated by the public and the press, took place in Athens, Geneva, Madrid, Vienna and Zurich. The cycles of all symphonies by Schumann and Brahms were performed in the Megaron Hall in Athens and in the Wiener Musikverein. Works by Schubert and Beethoven were performed in the Victoria Hall in Geneva and in the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid as well as Schumann's Symphony No. 1, the “Spring Symphony,” combined with Brahms at the second Madrid concert 4th symphony.

“If you had to describe the richness, the subtle precision, the elegant splendor of the performance in one word, only one adjective would come into question: indescribable. No orchestra acts more like a homogeneous collective than the Staatskapelle, and none makes music as a collective in a more differentiated and emotionally engaged manner. The musicians never play notes, melodies or harmonies - they experience feelings and emotional changes together, in detail and in bulk,” says Der Standard about the conclusion of the Schumann and Brahms cycles in Vienna.
