Celebrating a New Year at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden

On December 31 and January 1, the Staatskapelle Berlin’s New Year concerts will take place in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. This year, the orchestra will play under the musical direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and soprano Elsa Dreisig appears as a soloist.

The program includes »Ein Heldenleben« and the »Vier letzten Lieder« by Richard Strauss, who was Kapellmeister and General Music Director from 1898 to 1918. During this time, he directed well over 1,000 opera and concert performances, thereby significantly shaping the history of the house.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Concertgebouworkest and the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, as well as the major American orchestras in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh , Cleveland, and Chicago. At the Glyndebourne Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Styriarte Festival, he has directed very successful concerts and opera performances. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the conducting class of Uroš Lajovic. Since the 2014-15 season, Andrés Orozco-Estrada has been chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the London Philharmonic Orchestra made him its Principal Guest Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra in September 2015. He has been chief conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker since the 2021-22 season. The first tour with the renowned orchestra took him to Austria, elsewhere in Europe, and Asia. In addition, he and his orchestra will be performing a new production of Catalani's “La Wally” in the Theater an der Wien and in September at the open-air concert in the Museumsquartier. In addition, Andrés Orozco-Estrada will be a guest with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai.

The internationally sought-after soprano Elsa Dreisig, who has been a member of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden ensemble since the 2017-18 season, can not only be seen as a soloist at the concerts at the turn of the year, but also currently in the role of Musetta in Puccini's LA BOHÈME as Mimì. During FESTTAGE 2022 she can be seen as part of the Mozart da Ponte cycle in COSÌ FAN TUTTE (as Fiordiligi), LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (as Contessa) and DON GIOVANNI (as Donna Elvira). In addition, at the end of January 2022 she will release her new album under the title "Mozart x 3".
