On Tour: November 18 – December 8

European and Asian tour of the Staatskapelle Berlin, under the musical direction of Sir Andrew Davis and Christian Thielemann

From November 18 to December 8, 2022, the Staatskapelle Berlin will be visiting Denmark and Asia (South Korea and Japan). The concert tour will kick off with two concerts in Aarhus and Aalborg on November 18th and 19th, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. Beginning November 28, eight concerts will follow in Asia (Seoul, Kumamoto, Osaka, and Tokyo) under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann, who is currently conducting an acclaimed RING with the Staatskapelle Berlin in Berlin.

At the beginning of October, Daniel Barenboim announced that he would be withdrawing from some of his performances in the coming months, particularly from conducting, for health reasons. We wish our general music director a speedy recovery and are very grateful to Sir Andrew Davis and Christian Thielmann for taking on the conducting of this tour.

The four symphonies by Johannes Brahms are on the programs for the ten concerts, as well as Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major and Richard Wagner's prelude to TRISTAN UND ISOLDE.

For the first time in the history of the orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin will be making guest appearances in South Korea, and returns to Japan after six years.

The Staatskapelle Berlin will be playing eight concerts in Asia under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann: with three performances in the South Korean capital Seoul - the hometown of the first concertmaster Jiyoon Lee - and five concerts in Kumamoto, Osaka and Tokyo.
