On May 21, the Orchestra Academy at the Staatskapelle Berlin will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an anniversary concert in the Great Hall of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Current students, alumni, and mentors play together under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim. The program includes Wagner's "Siegfried Idyll" and Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, the "Jupiter" symphony.
The Orchestra Academy makes it possible for young and talented musicians to be part of the Staatskapelle Berlin. The Orchestra Academy was founded in 1997 by Daniel Barenboim and members of the Staatskapelle Berlin together with the directorship and management of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, with the idea of bringing together talented young musicians in an ensemble in order to give them an insight into everyday working life as part of the Staatskapelle Berlin. The members of the Orchestra Academy are prepared for the full spectrum of musical repertoire as part of a two-year scholarship that includes private lessons as well as chamber music lessons. The students are also given the opportunity to work with first-class musicians and well-known conductors, play in the major concert halls of Berlin, and take part in tours to major music centers around the world.
There are currently 28 academics from the Orchestra Academy at the Staatskapelle Berlin, from 17 countries (Switzerland; South Korea; Russia; Germany; Romania; Kazakhstan; Serbia; Netherlands; Chile; Spain; Finland; Hungary; Austria; Poland; Australia; Portugal; United Kingdom).
