A Wonderful Staatsoper For All

Despite midsummer temperatures, around 22,000 enthusiastic visitors from Berlin and all over the world came to the 16th edition of STAATSOPER FOR ALL and transformed Bebelplatz into the largest concert hall in the city. After two years, the event could finally take place again for everyone, without limited space. Admission was, as always, free thanks to BMW.

STAATSOPER FOR ALL was under the patronage of Franziska Giffey, Governing Mayor of Berlin this year. The open-air event was moderated by journalist and moderator Petra Gute.

On "International Picnic Day" (Saturday, June 18), the acclaimed premiere of Puccini's TURANDOT was broadcast live from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under the musical direction of Zubin Mehta, Honorary Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin. The visually stunning new production was staged by film and opera director Philipp Stölzl. The conductor, the team of directors and the ensemble with Elena Pankratova in the title role, Yusif Eyvazov, Aida Garifullina, René Pape, Siegfried Jerusalem as well as Gyula Orendt, Andrés Moreno García, Siyabonga Maqungo and David Oštrek were not only celebrated in the opera house, but also bowed on the Bebelplatz for the spectators. There was also great applause for the Staatsopernchor and the Staatskapelle Berlin.
