COSÌ FAN TUTTE

On October 3rd, Mozart's COSÌ FAN TUTTE will be performed for the first time in 10 years at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in a new production staged by Vincent Huguet, and under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim. The ensemble includes Federica Lombardi (Fiordiligi), Marina Viotti (Dorabella), Barbara Frittoli (Despina), Paolo Fanale (Ferrando), Gyula Orendt (Guglielmo) and Lucio Gallo (Don Alfonso) as well as the State Opera Choir and the Staatskapelle Berlin. The stage design is by Aurélie Maestre, the costumes by Clémence Pernoud, and Irene Selka is responsible for the lighting.

It is the second opera in the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy that Vincent Huguet and Daniel Barenboim have worked on together and laid out as a cycle with coherent content. Vincent Huguet sets the first part of the trilogy the late 1960s. A concept was developed for all three works, in which an arc is drawn from the upheavals of the 1968 movement to the present day, and the story of two people is told over a period of several decades. For the first time, this Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy can also be experienced twice as a complete cycle during FESTTAGE 2022.

It is also the first Mozart-Da Ponte cycle that Daniel Barenboim is performing together with just one director as a coherent series at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. From 1999 to 2001, Barenboim musically realized a Mozart-Da Ponte cycle with LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (1999) and DON GIOVANNI (2000) directed by Thomas Langhoff, and COSÌ FAN TUTTE (2001) staged by Doris Dörrie. DON GIOVANNI was also staged in 2007 with Peter Mussbach as director, and in 2012 under the direction of Claus Guth, as a takeover of a Salzburg Festival production.

COSÌ FAN TUTTE has returned to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden for the first time in a decade; the last iteration in 2011 as a revival of a production by Doris Dörrie in the Schiller Theater.

Further performances of COSÌ FAN TUTTE will take place on October 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th and 20th, as well as twice during FESTTAGE 2022 together with LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and DON GIOVANNI.
