Celebrating Daniel Barenboim’s 80th Birthday
The American Friends of the Berlin Staatsoper congratulate Maestro Daniel Barenboim on his 80th birthday on November 15 and over 30 years working with the Staatskapelle-Berlin.
His stature as our classical music renaissance man has no peer. Not only as a pianist and conductor but also as the founder of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra Maestro Barenboim has been an outspoken supporter of human rights and oppressed people worldwide. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the podium.
Artistic Director Matthias Schulz, the Staatskapelle Berlin, and all employees of the house wish Daniel Barenboim all the best for his 80th birthday on November 15, 2022.
This year, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden not only looks back on Daniel Barenboim's milestone birthday, but also on his 30th anniversary as general music director. Since he conducted the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatsopernchor at the turn of the year 1991/92 with Beethoven's 9th symphony for the first time, and his first opera production followed in autumn 1992 with Wagner's Parsifal, he has accumulated an impressive number of joint performances and concerts: 760 music theater performances (opera and ballet) and more than 850 concerts add up to over 1,600 performances that took place in connection with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. This includes over 450 appearances on guest tours, which have taken Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle to operas and concerts in 80 cities and around 100 theaters and concert halls worldwide. In addition, there are numerous CD and DVD productions and other activities, such as the founding of the Orchestra Academy and the Opera Studio.
