Concert for Peace

In favor of humanitarian aid for the Ukrainians

Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, there will be a concert for peace with the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatsopernchor under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the United Nations Ukraine Humanitarian Fund, which supports Ukrainians with humanitarian aid.

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank and Joachim Nagel, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, support the initiative and will be present at the concert. The ECB and the Bundesbank will also make donations on the occasion of the peace concert.

Thanks to the support of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, the Concert for Peace on Sunday will also be broadcast live on rbbKultur.

The program of the concert includes the Ukrainian national anthem “Shche ne vmerla Ukrajina” (Ще не вмерла Україна), composed in 1863 by Michailo Verbitsky to the poem “The Ukraine is not yet dead” by Pavlo Chubinsky. Schubert's Symphony No. 8 in B minor D759 (“Unfinished”) and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op. 55 (“Eroica”) will also be performed.

The management of the Staatsoper Unter Den Linden and all employees of the house are horrified, shocked, and deeply concerned about the war that the Russian government has started against Ukraine. This attack is not only aimed at one country, but at the entire culture of peaceful coexistence worldwide. ECB President Lagarde and Bundesbank President Nagel share their dismay at Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

As an opera house, we try with all our strength to create something instead of destroying it, to connect people in the experience of music, not to incite them against each other. Our solidarity and our sympathy go unreservedly to all those who have suffered from this catastrophe at this time.
