Wagner’s DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN

A myth, a heroic epic, a family saga – perhaps all of these things — make up Richard Wagner’s »Ring« tetralogy. A panorama of figures, situations and events unfolds like a universe that is hard to decipher due to its sheer breadth and multiple twists and turns. And all this is borne by truly major themes, such as love and hate, trust and betrayal, envy and empathy, power and powerlessness, life and death and much more, in ever new constellations. Over several generations, the story develops, comprising various storylines, which are ultimately brought together and resolved.

The Staatsoper's season 2022/23 beginning is fully marked by Wagner's »Ring«-tetralogy. All four premieres will take place in just one week in October, lending the new »Ring« a rare cyclical unity from the very outset. After two further performances in autumn 2022, the tetralogy will be shown again at the FESTTAGE 2023. For the third time, Daniel Barenboim is conducting a »Ring« production at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. He will be accompanied by Dmitri Tcherniakov, who will stage the production. After two joint Wagner ventures with »Parsifal« and »Tristan und Isolde«, this iconic duo is rising to perhaps the greatest challenge for an opera house and its artists.

Ticket sales for all cycles will start on 12 April 2022, 12 a.m.
The exact cast will be announced on 5 April 2022 – together with the whole programme of the season 2022/23.
