At Tuesday's press conference at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Senator for Culture and Europe, Dr. med. Klaus Lederer, in the presence of the director of the Staatsoper, Matthias Schulz, the General Music Director of the State Opera, Daniel Barenboim, as well as representatives of the orchestra board announced that the contract with Daniel Barenboim will be extended for an additional five years - from 2022 to 2027.

Senator for Culture and Europe, Dr. Ing. Klaus Lederer mentioned:

"After the many conversations in recent months, the conversations with the artists of the Staatskapelle, the Intendant and also with Daniel Barenboim, I have submitted to the Board of Trustees the extension of the contract with Daniel Barenboim for 5 years. The deciding factor was the orchestra's overwhelming desire."

General Music Director Daniel Barenboim:

"The Staatskapelle Berlin is one of the most important orchestras in the world with its 450-year history. The day on which the orchestra chose me to be Principal Conductor for life was one of the most beautiful and important days of my life as an artist. The Staatskapelle and I have been working together for the past 28 years and I am really pleased that we can now continue to plan together for the future."

Director of the State Opera Matthias Schulz:

"The house is very happy because Daniel Barenboim is interested in the whole institution and with him you can shape the future. The city has become aware of what it owes to Daniel Barenboim."

Orchestra Board of the Staatskapelle Berlin:

"Yes we are happy. The Staatskapelle Berlin is happy! "
