Matthias Schulz and Bart Sher delighted the American Friends of the Berlin Staatsoper with their descriptions of the new Unter den Linden Opera House and preparations for the June 2, 2019 premiere of Rigoletto.

Matthias reminded the guests of the House's long history on the one hand and its engaging younger contemporary artists to produce and perform new interpretations of masterpieces while simultaneously launching new opera for and cast by children.

The Baroque Festival launched last year was a resounding success and new productions for its annual revival are in the works. Outreach to younger children continues unabated and a children's opera is part of the Berlin Festival this April.

Bart Sher's description of the development process in bringing Rigoletto to the stage produced an engaging dialogue regarding interpreting plots, characters and a visual tableaux that reached the audience's emotions.

The Staatsoper Berlin will have seven premieres next season and and are underway to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Staatskapelle Berlin.

It's not to late to order tickets to the Berlin Festival this April!
