AFBS welcomes Matthias Schultz as the new director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden

Matthias Schulz studied piano at the University of Mozarteum Salzburg (Christoph Lieske, Peter Lang) and completed the study of economics at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, which he graduated in 2003 with a cultural-economic thesis as a graduate economist.

In the summer months between 1999 and 2001 Schulz worked in the concert department of Salzburg Festival. In 2003 he established artistic operations at Konzerthaus Dortmund before joining in 2004 as project manager for the opera project “Mozart 22”. 2005-2009 saw his return to the Salzburg Festival as Media officer. Followed by leader of concert planning and development of program content.

In 2012, Schulz took over the Commercial Management and Artistic Director of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg. On the artistic side, the responsibility extended to the concert area as well as the dramaturgical connection of the three core areas of the Mozarteum Foundation - Concerts, Science and Museums. Matthias Schulz was and is a member of the board of various festivals as well as jury member international competitions.
