Return of the Kinderopernhaus Berlin!

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Berlin Children's Opera House has started its long-awaited series of performances: After the start in May at the Fontane-Haus in Reinickendorf, three more imaginative new music theater productions with children aged 8 to 12 will be performed in the Kulturforum Hellersdorf, the Lichtenberger Kulturhaus Karlshorst, and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. In months of rehearsals, the almost 100 children involved, together with the artistic-educational teams of the children's opera houses, developed pieces that will be performed from May to July.

On Saturday, June 18, THE SECRET OF THE SEA will premiere in the newly designed Kulturforum Hellersdorf. In cooperation with the Lin Jaldati youth art school, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf children's opera house is realizing a new production about the adventurous history of the deep-sea city of Tijan and lets the audience listen to the sounds of Georg Friedrich Handel and Franz Schubert as they dive into a mysterious underwater world. Further performances: June 19 and for school classes on June 20.

On Saturday, June 25, the Lichtenberg Children’s Opera House, where it all began in 2010, will be presenting its twelfth production of the musical theater fairy tale DER KÖNIG TANZT in the Kulturhaus Karlshorst. The focus is on the medieval-style song "Es führungen über den Main eine Brücke von Stein" by Hindemith's student Felicitas Kuckuck. The fantastic music theater production tells the story of the magical bridge: Anyone who enters it has to dance and forget their worries - to the displeasure of the king, who puts a curse on the bridge so that it can no longer be entered and the country is divided. Can the people change the mind of the king and overcome the separation? Further performances: June 26 and for school classes on June 27.

A special highlight is announced with the production of the children's opera house Unter den Linden SPEED, YOUR WRITING WINDS based on the Bach cantata "The Competition between Phoebus and Pan" which celebrates its premiere on July 3rd in the old orchestra rehearsal hall of the State Opera. For the first time, the children's opera house is devoting itself to a work by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to singing, dance plays a central role for the first time. The participating children aged 10 to 12 come from the districts of Lichtenberg, Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Reinickendorf, and Mitte and have grown together over the past months of rehearsals to form the ensemble of the children's opera house Unter den Linden. Together with professional musicians from the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper and members of the Staatskapelle Berlin, the ensemble has developed an original piece of music theater in cooperation with the Staatsballett Berlin. Adrian Heger is the musical director, the staging and choreography are by Kathlyn Pope, the costume design is by Petra Weikert. Further performances: July 4, 5, 6 and 7, 2022.
