STAATSOPER FOR ALL 2022

June 18th and 19th, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and its long-term partner BMW will hold the 16th edition of STAATSOPER FOR ALL on Bebelplatz - once more free and for everyone, without limited seating and ticket capacity. On Saturday evening, audiences can enjoy Giacomo Puccini's TURANDOT (conductor: Zubin Mehta, director: Philipp Stölzl). Sunday afternoon on Bebelplatz, there will be a live concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim, with works by Schumann and Tchaikovsky. The concert is also one of the kick-off events of the cultural summer festival.

STAATSOPER FOR ALL is under the patronage of Franziska Giffey, Governing Mayor of Berlin. The open-air event will be moderated by journalist and moderator Petra Gute.

I am extremely grateful to our partner BMW that we went through the last two years of the pandemic together and that STAATSOPER FOR ALL did not have to be canceled a single time. In this way, even in these challenging times for opera houses, we were able to set the important signal for experiencing culture together. So it's all the nicer that the event can finally really take place for everyone again this year. I'm sure it will be a very emotional moment! And the Bebelplatz should once again be transformed into the largest open-air opera and concert hall in Berlin.

-Matthias Schulz, Artistic Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden

I am looking forward to this year's STAATSOPER FOR ALL concert with great anticipation. After two years of restrictions, we can finally play for as many Berliners as we can on Bebelplatz! Fortunately, my health allows it again. As always, our heartfelt thanks go to BMW for making this wonderful format possible. I wish us all a few carefree summer hours with the music of Schumann and Tchaikovsky.

-Daniel Barenboim, General Music Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden

For the 16th time, STAATSOPER FÜR ALLE turns Berlin summer evenings into a special musical experience. It is a pleasure for us, as a global main partner, to enable free access for many thousands of opera lovers again this year. For us, diversity, dialogue and the freedom of the arts are essential for peaceful coexistence. We are firmly convinced that events such as STAATSOPER FOR ALL promote intercultural understanding. This is especially true in times like these. Together with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden we wish our guests a wonderful weekend - in the opera, on Bebelplatz and via the live stream.

-Dr. Nicolas Peter, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Finance

On International Picnic Day (Saturday, June 18), the premiere of Puccini's TURANDOT can be experienced live from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under the musical direction of Zubin Mehta, Honorary Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin. The ensemble includes Elena Pankratova in the title role, Yusif Eyvazov, Aida Garifullina, René Pape, Siegfried Jerusalem and Gyula Orendt, Andrés Moreno García, Siyabonga Maqungo, David Oštrek, the Staatsopernchor, and the Staatskapelle Berlin.

On Sunday, June 19, the Staatskapelle Berlin will perform live on Bebelplatz, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The program includes Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64.
