STAATSOPER FOR ALL Weekend: June 18 & 19, 2022

On Bebelplatz, with the live broadcast of Puccini's TURANDOT and a live concert with the Staatskapelle Berlin. Free, and for everyone once more!

On June 18th and 19th, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and its long-standing partner BMW hold the 16th edition of STAATSOPER FOR ALL on Bebelplatz, with a live opera broadcast on Saturday evening and a live concert on Sunday afternoon. Finally for everyone again - without limited space and tickets - and with free admission.

On International Picnic Day (June 18), the premiere of Giacomo Puccini's TURANDOT under the musical direction of Zubin Mehta, Honorary Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin, can be experienced live from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. The visually stunning new production is staged by film and opera director Philipp Stölzl, known for films such as Schachnovelle (2021) or Der Medicus (2013). The ensemble includes Elena Pankratova in the title role, Aida Garifullina, René Pape, Siegfried Jerusalem, Yusif Eyvazov, Gyula Orendt, Andrés Moreno García, Siyabonga Maqungo, David Oštrek, the Staatsopernchor and the Staatskapelle Berlin.

Princess Turandot doesn't want to belong to anyone. She is ready to give everything for this. So far, the strategy of getting rid of annoying suitors has worked: Anyone who wants to marry her has to solve three puzzles. If you don't make it, you pay with your life. Hundreds try their luck and fall victim to Turandot's cruel dictatorship. But then a man appears who can solve the riddle... The central starting point of Stölzl's concept is Pang's exclamation “Turandot doesn't exist!”

The live concert with the Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, is on Sunday, June 19th on the Bebelplatz.
